Tanya A. Smith

Reverend Tanya A. Smith is an Associate Minister at Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco, CA. She accepted her call into the ministry and was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel on November 17, 2007 by Reverend Calvin Jones, Jr., M.Div., and ordained on November 10, 2018. She is a graduate of the Leadership Institute of Allen Temple were she earned a certificate in Christian Ministry which is recognized by American Baptist Seminary of the West. Reverend Smith is a highly regarded servant leader, prayer warrior, and teacher of ministries within her local church including the Sunday Morning Bible Study for New Members, Prison Ministry, and Spiritual Advisor for the Girl’s Ministry-a division of the Women’s Ministry. In November 2020 she was appointed Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Leroy Adams, Jr., Pastor.
Reverend Smith is a regular exhorter with several prayer ministries including Prayer Everywhere an international teleconference and prayer ministry under the leadership of Bishop Sean F. Teal, Th.D. and Abounding Love Bible Ministry, a bay area prayer ministry under the direction of Rev. Anita Latin, M.Th. Reverend Smith is a strong leader and advocate of women, youth, and young adults. She is a past president of the Women’s Ministry of her local church; past president of the Women’s Ministry of the Home and Foreign Mission District Association; and past Chair of the Missions and Outreach Committee of the California State Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. In June 2019, Reverend Smith made history as the first woman appointed First Vice Moderator of the Home and Foreign Mission District Association.
Affectionately known as Aminisha, a Swahili word meaning “the inspirer, one who promotes faith in others,” Reverend Smith has a genuine love for helping hurting women. She is a former counselor and manager of a faith-based, parachurch, and a non-profit organization where she directed the clinical operations of three licensed medical clinics that provided free medical care and professional counseling for women and men in unplanned pregnancies. Her love, advocacy, and skills working with women and families led to February 2021 appointment to the Board of Directors for OVL Foundation, an organization committed to employment training, academic and career development, and evidentially housing, to women transitioning out of foster care into independent living.
Reverend Smith is a native of San Francisco and has one adult son.
